It seems like it was only a few years ago I was seeing Bauhaus even the Sex Pistols for the first time.
I’ve been in the music industry for the past 20+ years, both in the retail and distribution ends of the business. If you’ve bought vinyl or seen a gig in Chicago anytime in the last couple of decades – there is a chance our paths have crossed.
Maybe you were a customer of ours at The Turntable in the mid 80s & 90s or more recently bought from us on eBay. Where for the last 9yrs as Bob’s Sound Advice we sold vinyl worldwide, rose to Power Seller status all the while maintaining a customer satisfaction rating of 99.7% or higher. Those are my retail credentials, my distribution experience comes from working for a couple mid size companies and now as the U.S. rep with
 , the largest UK Music Distribution in London. But music is more than a business to me, it is my life - something I thoroughly enjoy and that is the reason we left eBay to open our new website – BobsSoundAdvice.com.
I want BobsSoundAdvice.com to be a full service vinyl store online – to combine the technology of the internet with my passion for music…
It's a big move for us and the timing is a little risky, but there was a big disconnect between the vision of my music store and a list of eBay items and auctions. I want my store to look and feel like we are selling music, in fact a lot of great music, collectible music – music I listen to by bands I have actually seen play – not to mention the quality of vinyl – and the jacket art – even some of these sleeves or discs themselves – it was all getting lost – so we had to do it and with today’s technology we could do it online.
It will be like they're walking into the front door of my store.
It didn’t take long to figure out we couldn’t do both - open a new website and keep our eBay store – both are full time jobs and “we” is really me and a couple of mice in my pocket. So here we are BobsSoundAdvice.com is open and we’re starting to look like the music store we want to be. We’ve added some features that bring some “life” to the experience - like being able to add ratings and reviews to any item, you can create shopping lists even make them public so others know exactly what to get you as a gift (just in time for the holidays!), and you can e-mail item links to friends. There will be more to come - an alpha search for easier browsing, sound files, "On the Sound Advice Turntable", e-Catalogs for pre-orders… But the most important change is opening the lines of communication - you can call me, e-mail or IM me with your questions/comments - you can add reviews or respond to mine - this is music after all - meant to be enjoyed – an experience shared with others, discussed even debated…an experience to be lived. |
